Pressure on ETH event space

Demand for event venues at ETH Zurich already exceeds in-house supply. All organisational units are urged to plan well ahead and to budget for renting space from external providers.

While the extended teaching hours help to address the pressing need for lecture rooms, this means that during termtime the Rectorate rooms are usually only available for evening events. Moreover, the temporary closure of the Semper Aula (HG G 60) for safety and conservation work (until end of 2024) has eliminated a central event space. Bottlenecks are already forming. The Audi Max, Alumni Pavilion and Siemens Auditorium and all other ETH Zurich rooms, however, can be reserved where available under the usual conditions.

External event space; alternative event formats

The shortage of room capacity will be felt more keenly now than in the past, particularly by the departments and professorships. To ensure that planned events can take place, you should enquire about in-house capacity in good time and, if necessary, rent event space outside ETH. Given the current situation, we suggest you consider hybrid or virtual formats as an alternative to in-person events. Regarding the financial aspect, the Executive Board has decided that the costs for renting event space externally or holding alternative formats are to be borne by the organisational units, as before. This should be taken into account in your budgeting.
